- The Dept for Work and Pensions has published new proposals for welfare reforms. The main recommendation is that lone parents will be required to actively seek work once their youngest child is seven. Other proposals include Income Capacity benefits for new claimants being replaced with the Employment and Support Allowance. - Culture Secretary James Purnell has announced that the government is to look into National Lottery taxation. At present, tax is levied as a set proportion of total sales, whereas Camelot would like it changed to a tax on gross profit. A report last year claimed that this would raise an extra £400million for good causes by 2019.
