Funding News January/February 2008
- The European Commission has approved £2.1billion of structural funding up to 2013. Regional Development Agencies have been given control of the funds instead of England’s Regional Government Offices as in 2000-2006. Most of the funds will be used to support schemes to boost economic competitiveness and to tackle climate change.
- The Dept for Communities and Local Government has announced £52.95million of funding to the charity Coalfields Regeneration Trust. The funding will be given over three years.
- Nineteen Welsh voluntary organisations will benefit from £10.4million from the Welsh Assembly. The money will go to groups who work to improve the wellbeing of young people. For more details visit www.wales.gov.uk
- Ruth Kelly has announced funding for ten towns and one major city to promote cycling. £140million is available over three years.
- According to an independent review into the New Entrepreneur Scholarships, a £6million a year programme to help people in disadvantaged areas start new businesses, three quarters of entrants have set up their business within three months of completing the scheme. Of these, 95% were still running after a year, 86% after three years, and 76% after five.
